. I began dog training as a child of 9 in the 4-H dog project. I worked with our family farm dog, a border collie mix named “Lad”. It quickly became evident to all that I had a special talent for training and communicating with dogs as well as many other animals. . Since that time, I have been very actively involved in training my own dogs, teaching dog obedience (4-H, YWCA, private), some showing, and many other aspects of the dog world. By these connections, I have always been involved in rescue, usually from a rehab standpoint. Starfish Pet Rescue evolved from those connections as a means to help at least a few dogs find their talents in life, whether it be as an agility dog, disc dog, therapy dog, and, in all cases, beloved friend. I firmly believe that problems begin with lack of training and lack of understanding. When a “problem dog” is properly trained and his actions understood, he can find his perfect home. All of this takes time, commitment, and, yes, money. With limited resources, we cannot save all of them, but we can hope to make a difference! .
